Senator Marshall Calls for Select Committee to Investigate COVID-19 Origins

(Washington, D.C., May 11, 2021) – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. today introduced a resolution calling for a bipartisan Select Committee to investigate the origins of COVID-19.

“On January 28, 2020, I was the first member of Congress to stand on the House floor and discuss my concerns about COVID-19. And today with over three million lives lost, critical questions remain unanswered about its origins,” said Senator Marshall. “We must demand full access to all relevant records, samples, and key personnel. If bad actors continue to obfuscate and prevent this investigation from happening, we can’t take no for an answer. For these reasons, Congress must start our own parallel investigation now, which is why I have called for a bipartisan Select Committee.”

Background:

COVID-19 has spread to all corners of the world killing more than three million people in its path, including more than 580,000 Americans. As the world continues to recover from the pandemic, origins of COVID-19 continues to be unknown. Last year, the U.S. joined over 60 countries – including Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, as well as the European Union – in signing a resolution requiring the World Health Organization (WHO) to conduct an independent investigation of the COVID-19 outbreak. That resolution was adopted unanimously during a virtual meeting of the World Health Assembly, despite repeated complaints from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Unfortunately, the WHO is not independent of CCP’s political agenda and they released a joint report on March 30, 2021. Of note, CCP refused to allow unrestricted access to all relevant records, samples, and personnel. In addition, CCP had willingly destroyed potential evidence early on that could have provided answers to many unanswered questions. Scientists and public officials from governments across the world have concluded there was a multi-pronged effort to cover-up the initial outbreak and they continue to this very day to spread disinformation and prevent foreign scientists from gathering all the data needed to fully trace the origin of COVID-19.

The bipartisan Select Committee would consist of an equal number of Republicans and Democrats, chosen by the Leaders of their respective parties, and would have one year to complete its investigation and report to Congress and the American people.
