Sen. Marshall Votes Against Pelosi’s Election Bill Power Grab
(Washington, D.C., June 22, 2021) – Today, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. issued the following statement after voting against the Democrats’ unapologetic power grab and attempt to undermine the integrity of U.S. elections:
“Our goal has always been to make it easier to vote and harder to cheat. When you eliminate voter I.D., it makes it easier to cheat. When you promote ballot harvesting, it makes it easier to cheat,” said Senator Marshall. “This bill would have decreased the value of one of the greatest privileges we have in this nation – the opportunity to get out and vote. From the beginning, the Nancy Pelosi Power Grab Act was destined for failure, and I applaud my colleagues who stood firm and prevented this legislation from wreaking havoc on U.S. elections.”
Background:
- The bill incentivizes ballot harvesting and in turn devalues Kansans’ votes. (“Making Every Election Like 2020,” The Wall Street Journal, 3/01/2021)
- The bill takes integrity out of the election process by prohibiting voter ID – Kansas requires voter ID and its working. (20 Attorneys General, Letter to Reps. Pelosi and McCarthy and Sens. Schumer and McConnell, 3/03/2021)
- Polls have found strong opposition to key provisions of S.1, with 77% supporting the voter ID laws that S.1 would render meaningless.
- The bill would make Kansans’ hard-earned taxpayer dollars be routed towards funding political candidates of the opposite party. (“Making Every Election Like 2020,” The Wall Street Journal, 3/01/2021)
Last week, Senator Marshall spoke on the Senate floor and joined his colleagues in a press conference to talk about S.1. You may click HERE or on the image below to watch Senator Marshall’s remarks from the press conference.
