Senators Marshall, Moran and Rep. Estes Announce Funding for Wellington Municipal Airport

(Washington, D.C., March 12, 2021) – Today, U.S. Senators Roger Marshall, M.D., and Jerry Moran as well as Congressman Ron Estes announced $13,000 in funding for the Wellington Municipal Airport to help with expenses related to COVID-19.

“Municipal airports provide essential services to our rural communities,” said Senator Marshall. “As we work to rebuild and reopen our economy, we must make sure that airports are able to provide a safe and healthy environment for passengers, pilots, and employees. This assistance helps Wellington do just that.”

“Local airports help bring economic opportunities and critical resources to rural communities across Kansas,” said Sen. Moran. “Since the onset of this pandemic, our airports have worked hard to create safe flying opportunities for passengers and crew, and this grant will help Wellington Municipal Airport with associated costs related to the pandemic, including sanitization services to continue to ensure the airport is safe for folks passing through.”

“Kansas has a rich history in aviation and the Wellington Municipal Airport has served the people of Sumner County and south central Kansas for more than a decade,” said Rep. Estes. “This new funding will ensure that the Wellington Airport can safely continue operations with health and sanitation measures to promote public health.”

Background:

This grant is funded by the Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2020, which was passed by Congress in December 2020. The funds will be used to cover costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at the airport.
