Senator Marshall Leads Letter to Sec. Austin On Shielding BioTech Firms in Gain-of-Function Research

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. led a letter to Department of Defense (DOD) Secretary Lloyd Austin regarding a recent audit of the Pentagon funding risky Gain-of-Function research outside the U.S. that may have shielded collaborations with Chinese biotech firms, including at least one linked to Beijing’s military.

Senator Marshall’s letter demands for answers from Secretary Austin on the redactions that concealed the Chinese firms, and public scrutiny in the audit.
