Senator Marshall Leads CRA Opposing Biden Rule To Add More Regulation On Existing Oil Production

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Roger Marshall, M.D., Steve Daines (R-MT) led a Congressional Review Act (CRA) in the Senate challenging the Biden Administration’s rule that would jam additional burdensome regulations on new and existing oil production in Kansas. President Biden’s pile-on of new regulatory burdens on our oil producers would significantly increase the cost for Kansas producers to do business, eventually trickling down to the consumer. U.S. Reps. Jodey Arrington (R-TX), Tracey Mann (R-KS), and August Pfluger (R-TX) are leading this CRA in the House.

This joint resolution of disapproval is co-sponsored by Senators Lankford (R-OK), Cruz (R-TX), Blackburn (R-TN), Lee (R-UT), Lummis (R-WY), Tim Scott (R-SC), Sullivan (R-AK), John Hoeven (R-ND), Mullin (R-OK), and Ricketts (R-NE).

“Energy costs have significantly risen nationwide and Americans are feeling it. Piling on regulatory burdens on the oil and natural gas industry at this time would only further exacerbate this trend,” Senator Marshall said. “The Biden Administration has taken their war on American  energy and oil producers too far. I will not bow down in this fight against strangling our producers with Washington D.C.’s red tape.”

“President Biden will stop at nothing to appease the far-Left environmental groups that want to shut down domestic energy production, and the results are devastating to Montana’s small energy producers,” Senator Daines said. “We must put a stop to Biden’s heavy-handed regulations that are bad for our pocketbooks, America’s energy security and our national security.”

“This one-size-fits-all regulation would impose unworkable costs on energy producers, particularly smaller companies that would be forced to shut down operations, harming America’s energy security,” said Senator Hoeven. “Instead, the Biden administration needs to alleviate the bureaucratic logjam that prevents the construction of gas-gathering lines and other infrastructure needed to capture natural gas and get it to market. That’s what this CRA and our broader efforts to provide regulatory relief aim to achieve.”

“Energy security is national security. Increasing energy production here at home creates jobs and makes us and our allies safer,” Senator Tim Scott said. “I’m proud to join this effort to beat back the Biden administration’s overreach, strengthen our national security, and restore American energy dominance.”

“Oklahomans don’t need another high-priced green energy policy from the White House. The EPA’s new emission guidelines are an attack on American energy producers that will make prices increase yet again,” Senator Lankford said.“Energy prices are already up over 30 percent under President Biden and this new rule promises to increase our energy prices even more. President Biden should focus on all of the above energy solutions that create more jobs and lower prices instead of killing jobs and increasing inflation.”

“On day one, Joe Biden declared war on American energy, issuing sweeping executive orders to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline and prohibit new oil and gas leases. This newly proposed EPA rule would only impose more unnecessary burdens on an overregulated American energy sector and escalate prices for consumers. Congress should send a strong message that we oppose this far-left attempt to undermine our energy producers once again,” Senator Blackburn said.

“This administration’s continued assault on domestic energy has not only crippled Wyoming’s energy industry but has threatened our energy independence and jeopardized our national security,” Senator Lummis said. “We cannot allow unelected Biden administration bureaucrats to unilaterally implement new rules that hogtie our domestic oil industry. My colleagues and I will use every tool we have available to cut this unnecessary red tape and unleash American energy.”

“The U.S. produces the cleanest oil and gas in the world, but Joe Biden has weaponized the EPA to pursue his radical Green New Deal agenda,” Senator Cruz said. “His war on American energy is destroying jobs in Texas and is tone-deaf as Americans struggle with inflation on gas, rent, groceries, and utility bills. I am proud to cosponsor Senator Marshall’s resolution to overturn this disastrous EPA regulation.”

“The Biden EPA’s new methane rule is harmful to Oklahoma’s manufactures and energy producers,” Senator Mullin said. “I am glad to join Sen. Marshall and my colleagues on this CRA to overturn this burdensome regulation and ensure access to affordable, abundant natural gas for all Americans.”

“This EPA rule is another attack in the Biden administration’s war on American energy production,” Senator Lee said. “Energy producers face yet another regulatory burden that will contribute to rampant inflation and inflate gas prices and utility bills for hardworking American families. Congress must stop President Biden’s irrational climate change regulations that hinder American energy dominance.”

“The Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) has recommended a litany of regulatory fixes to the rule, and we hoped they would be considered but haven’t been. Use of the Congressional Review Act is one of the last remaining options and has our support. IPAA recognizes that EPA will be regulating methane emissions and producers’ responsibility to control them,” Independent Petroleum Association of America said. “However, EPA developed regulations that would shut down 300,000 small oil and natural gas wells. It has ignored all of the efforts to explain the inequities of the regulation on these producers, and then tried to prevent states from giving any relief to these wells as they have the right to do in the Clean Air Act. There are few options left to try to bring some reality into this process.”
