Senator Marshall Introduces Landmark Legislation Protecting America’s Children from Predatory Transgender Agenda

Washington, D.C. – Today U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. introduced the Safeguarding the Overall Protection of Minors Act, new legislation to protect America’s children from irreversible physical and emotional harm caused by transgender procedures pushed by the radical Left. Under Senator Marshall’s legislation, mutilating procedures aimed at minors would be prohibited and strict financial penalties would be imposed on physicians who perform these procedures.

“Americans resoundingly rejected the Left’s dangerous transgender agenda. Let’s call it exactly what it is: child abuse,” Senator Marshall said. “The days of demented doctors and activists getting rich off of mutilating, sterilizing, and castrating children are over.

“Our legislation keeps children’s safety paramount by prohibiting anyone from performing, facilitating, or even conspiring to give these irreversible therapies and procedures to minors. This bill is just the beginning of what’s to come with President Trump at the helm and our unwavering commitment to protecting children from transgender activists’ twisted and criminal agenda.”

Background: 

Specifically, the Safeguarding the Overall Protection of Minors Act would protect America’s children from the medical dangers of the radical Left’s transgender agenda by:

• Prohibiting any person, or the minor in question, from engaging in interstate commerce to perform, attempting to perform, conspiring to perform, or providing a referral for any gender transition procedure, including surgeries, hormone treatments, and other therapies, on a minor.
• Allowing the HHS Secretary to impose a civil penalty of at least $100,000 on the offending individual, an amount to be collected by the Attorney General
• Creating a private right of action for the victim, or their legal guardian if they are still a minor, to bring a civil action for appropriate relief against the individuals responsible for performing, attempting to perform, conspiring to perform, or providing a referral for any gender transition procedure on the minor.
• Establishing a grant program, with the funds collected by the Attorney General, to support, encourage, and assist individuals who are detransitioning in their efforts to reverse gender transition procedures.

The Safeguarding the Overall Protection of Minors Act is a major pillar in Senator Marshall’s fight against the transgender industrial complex that is preying on America’s children. Along with this legislation, Senator Marshall also recently led the Defining Male and Female Act to ensure the legal definition of sex is based on facts, not feelings, which would protect exclusive spaces for women like bathrooms and locker rooms.
