Senator Marshall and GOP Colleagues Introduce Bill to Block $6 Billion Payment to Iran

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. introduced legislation to revoke the waiver granted by the Biden Administration that would release $6 billion in frozen funds to Iran. Senator Marshall is joined by Senators Tillis (R-NC), Vance (R-OH), Hoeven (R-ND), Rick Scott (R-FL), Braun (R-IN), and Britt (R-AL). 

“Hamas is just the puppet, doing the dirty work of the puppet master – Iran,” Senator Marshall said. “Blood is on Iran’s hands- their fingerprints are all over this attack. They bankrolled Hamas and helped them plan the attacks as Joe Biden unleashed their revenue stream and energy sector. Make no mistake, Iran is the head of the snake who has been empowered by Joe Biden’s weak leadership. If Joe Biden won’t revoke these funds that will line the pockets of the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, we will.”

“We need to stand with Israel and stand against the Iranian regime,” Senator John Hoeven said. “That includes holding Iran accountable for sponsoring Hamas and helping to fund terror and violence in the region. This legislation will stop Iran from accessing the $6 billion, and ensure the regime is not able to use these funds to support terrorism.”

“The Biden Administration’s reckless decision to send $6 billion to the rogue state of Iran must be reversed,” Senator Tillis said. “Iran is the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism and their continued financial support of Hamas enabled the cold-blooded murder of thousands of innocent Israeli civilians, including the horrific slaying of children. This legislation will ensure the United States does not provide the Iranian regime with more resources to fund terrorism and attack our allies.”

“It was foolish for the Biden administration to ever move this money, and now we need to make sure these funds never get to the evil Iranian regime and make clear that the United States of America will never play nice with terrorists,” Senator Rick Scott said. “Anyone who says the Iranians and their terrorist proxies couldn’t use this $6 billion to support terrorism is lying to you. It’s time to take these funds off the table for good, slam Iran with the most severe sanctions imaginable and hold this evil regime accountable for the terror it has unleashed on the world.” 

“Iran knew they had $6 billion coming their way, and that windfall freed up resources to plan and execute the heinous terrorist attacks in Israel. The U.S. should freeze these funds immediately and permanently,” Senator Braun said.  

“We cannot allow Iran to continue enriching themselves and then using that money to fund Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorists who wish to inflict barbaric brutality on innocent civilians – including American citizens,” Senator Britt said. “As we’ve seen in its response to the terrorist attacks in Israel, the regime in Tehran does not care how many men are killed, how many women are raped, and how many children are kidnapped. We need to immediately cut off all possible sources of funding going to Iran and impose bone-crushing international sanctions to ensure maximum consequences.”
