Sen. Marshall Announces $6.17 Million Grant for Newton City-County Airport

(Washington, D.C., February 26, 2021) – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. announced today a $6.17 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the reconstruction of existing taxiway pavement at the Newton City-County Airport in Harvey County. Improvements to the taxiway will allow the airport to continue to service both its local and regional business clients.

“Municipal airports are an important part of our state’s infrastructure and economic development system,” said Senator Marshall. “The Newton airport is unique not only because of its history as a former air force base, but also because it serves both the local community, defense contractors, and others from the Wichita community. This is a critical piece of the regional infrastructure.”

Background:

Funding for the reconstruction of the taxiway comes from the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2019. The existing runway pavement had reached the end of its useful life, and approximately 8,000 feet of runway pavement will be reconstructed.
