Highlights from the press conference include:

“It is a humanitarian crisis here…We have to change policy. We can’t keep doing what we’ve been doing – our systems are overwhelmed,” Sen. Marshall (R-KS) said. “Right now the most immediate threat to our national security is this open border. And that is why I called on the House to impeach Secretary Mayorkas – he is derelict in his duties,”

“We are witnessing an absolute travesty unfolding on our southern border. On Monday, we apprehended over 10,000 people on the border – the highest level in history. On Tuesday, we apprehended over 10,000 people on the border, again, the highest level in history… In less than a month, we’ve had over 30,000 Venezualians cross illegally just right here… I have to say I am angry. Because this was deliberate. This is a decision that was made by President Joe Biden,” Sen. Cruz (R-TX) said.

“What I see each time I go [to the border] is more people coming illegally. What’s happening is our ability to process them is just getting faster. We’re processing more and more, and it’s just more people coming illegally… and it’s not just people coming illegally, it’s the drugs. Look at all the drugs – the fentanyl. Drugs are affecting every state in the nation. How about human trafficking? So it’s not just people coming here illegally, it’s drugs and human trafficking,” Sen. Hoeven (R-ND) said.

“We know that if we want a strong country, then we have to have strong borders… this is truly a humanitarian crisis. We just witnessed folks being transported all across the country. I just want to say thank you to everyone who is trying to do the right thing, that is trying to save lives down here… Let’s remember that if we want a strong country, we have to have strong borders. And Joe Biden is not doing that,” Sen. Budd (R-NC) said.

“We want the American public to truly understand what is going on on our borders. It’s not safe, it’s not humane, it is not orderly. It’s one thing to have the numbers, but unless we have the context of what those numbers actually mean, they’re just numbers. 10,000 apprehensions – that means we have a station that we just had 44 agents show up for muster, only 4 deployed to the field to control the border. 40 of those agents are doing administrative work. That means the cartel OWNS that area,” said Brandon Judd, National Border Control Council President.
