Senator Marshall Blasts Senate Democrats for Blocking DHS Sec. Mayorkas’ Impeachment Trial:

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. issued the following statement after 51 Senate Democrats voted to dismiss the impeachment trial for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. In a historic move to avoid a trial, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and his caucus violated 200 years of precedent. They undermined the U.S. Constitution to evade accountability for this Administration, creating the worst border crisis in CBP history.

“Today, Senate Democrats chose political expediency over holding a trial for DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas,” Senator Marshall said. “By voting to block Mayorkas’ impeachment trial, Senate Democrats signaled to Laken Riley’s family they do not care that an illegal immigrant murdered her daughter. They are signaling to all the families who lost a loved one to fentanyl poisoning that they do not care about the deadliest drug we have ever seen flooding over our open border and killing 300 Americans a day.”

“Senate Democrats have rejected the Constitution and jeopardizes the checks and balances Congress has over the Executive Branch,” Senator Marshall said. “There is absolutely no harm in having a trial, letting both sides make their cases, and subsequently rendering a verdict. But Senate Democrats deprived the American people of even hearing the arguments. This obstruction of justice sets a dangerous precedent for this Chamber. History will not be forgiving of Democrats’ decision to table this hearing; the American people will hold Mayorkas accountable at the ballot box this November.”
