ICYMI: Senator Marshall Joins FOX4 Kansas City Live in Studio To Discuss Upcoming Fentanyl Week of Action

Kansas City, MO – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. joined FOX4 Kansas City live in studio this morning to discuss his upcoming statewide Fentanyl Awareness Campaign, which features every member of Kansas’s federal delegation and coalition of diverse Kansas voices. All next week, the campaign will focus on raising awareness about the dangers of illegal fentanyl and its presence in communities across Kansas. The coalition includes law enforcement, educators, members of the state legislature, and health care groups and beyond. Senator Marshall also shared the story of Cooper Davis, a young Kansas teen who lost his life after taking a fentanyl-laced Percocet purchased on Snapchat.

On Senator Marshall’s Statewide Fentanyl Awareness Campaign: 

“It is bipartisan, Pat, and one pill can kill. One tablet laced with fentanyl is killing a young adult most every day in the state of Kansas and the state of Missouri. So we’re joining with our entire delegation across the state of Kansas, local officials, the Kansas City police chief and his folks are working with us, health departments, doctors, nurses…as our kids go back to school this week, let’s make sure that they understand that they may be ordering what they think is the Xanax or an Adderall tablet online, laced with fentanyl and they die from one tablet. One pill can kill.”

“The focus for this coming week is this hashtag: One Pill Can Kill. Getting the word out, educating parents. I know Pat was talking about you have five young children, young adults, I mean, those are the vulnerable people. And it’s easier in the state of Kansas, state of Missouri, the Kansas City metro, to order a fentanyl tablet online than it is to get a piece of pizza.”

On Cooper Davis, a young Kansas teen who lost his life to fentanyl:

“Cooper Davis was a wonderful young man, a junior in high school in the Kansas City metro area. He and his friends ordered what they thought were two Percocet tablets from Snapchat. Coop took one half of one tablet and died. That’s how deadly this is.” 

“These fentanyl tablets are 50 to 100 times more potent than Percocet tablets. So the equivalent of one tablet of fentanyl would be the equivalent of taking 100 Percocet tablets. It would kill any one of us if we took one fentanyl tablet, we could die. The police just handling it have to use Narcan. And by the way, I sure hope Narcan is in every one of these schools as our folks go back to school as well.”

“Your child is not immune from this. Regardless of who you are, you are vulnerable. Again, it’s easier to get a fentanyl tablet than it is a piece of pizza. So, through Snapchat, through these social medias, it’s very easy.”

“Unfortunately, the cartel is alive and well in the Kansas City Metro Area, they are out there trying to murder our children.” 

“So, just remember, your children are not immune to it. It’s education. Just warn them…they’re even lacing marijuana with fentanyl as well now.”
