Prepare Your Home for Winter Weather: Use energy saver tips and a home audit to learn ways to improve the energy efficiency of your home. You can also complete energy saver do-it-yourself projects to reduce your energy costs.
Traveling During Cold Weather: It’s important to take extra precautions when traveling during cold weather. Families hitting the road for the holidays should be prepared given an unexpected accident or winter storm.
The following is a list of resources to help Kansans winterize their homes and pay heating costs.
LIEAP 2025 Applications: The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program is a Federally funded program that helps eligible households pay a portion of their home energy costs by providing a one-time per year benefit. The 2025 LIEAP application period is from November 18, 2024, through March 31, 2025. Applications must be received prior to 5:00 PM, March 31, 2025.
Department of Energy and U.S. Health and Human Services Weatherization Services: Eligible households can receive assistance to improve energy efficiency through a variety of weatherization assistance. Eligible households can also receive a home energy audit to identify inefficiencies and health and safety concerns.
Black Hills Energy Resources: Black Hills Energy customers can apply for budget billing and take advantage of rebates, offers and ways to lower energy costs.
Kansas City Board of Public Utilities Resources: Kansas City Board of Public Utilities customers can reach out for home weatherization projects and access the Customer Hardship Payment Service program to help cover power and water expenses.
Atoms Energy Resources: Atoms Energy customers can apply for the Sharing the Warmth program, which provides funds to help cover natural gas bills. Customers can also establish payment plans.
Kansas Gas Service Resources: Kansas Gas Service customers can apply for assistance in paying their home heating cost.
