Senator Announces Support for Resolution to Unmask America’s Children

(Washington, D.C., February 17, 2022) – Today, on the heels of the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners voting to rescind the county’s school mask mandate, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. announced his support for Senator John Thune’s (S.D.) resolution that would nullify a federal rule that requires all staff and volunteers in Head Start educational facilities around the country to be fully vaccinated and wear a mask. Most notably, this resolution would invalidate the rule’s mandate for all children two years of age and older to wear a mask, including when they are playing outside.

“Johnson County made the right decision today to unmask Kansas kids. That said, we must never let this happen again, which is why I am supporting this important legislation. It’s time to put politics aside, listen to science, and apply common sense, especially when it comes to kids. Real world evidence shows us this virus disproportionately impacts senior citizens and those with underlying health conditions – not healthy children,” said Senator Marshall. “These anti-science, inconsistent mask mandates by bureaucrats and politicians have punished children and must be put to an end before irreparable damage is done the next generation.”

Congress can consider this resolution using expedited procedures under the Congressional Review Act and can pass it by a simple majority vote. This resolution is also co-sponsored by Senators John Barrasso (Wyo.), Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.), John Boozman (Ark.), Kevin Cramer (N.D.), Mike Crapo (Idaho), Ted Cruz (Texas), Steve Daines (Mont.), John Hoeven (N.D.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (Miss.), Jim Inhofe (Okla.), Mike Lee (Utah), Cynthia Lummis (Wyo.) Jim Risch (Idaho), Mike Rounds (S.D.), Marco Rubio (Fla.), and Rick Scott (Fla.).
