Sen. Marshall Requests Additional Senate Hearings with Kansas Union Members

(Washington, D.C., October 28, 2021) – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. today doubled down on his efforts to bring rank-and-file Kansas union works to Capitol Hill for hearings to discuss President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandates by sending hearing requests to the leaders of the Senate Agriculture, Small Business, and Energy Committees. These workers are at risk of losing their jobs over the mandate and in turn further exacerbating the labor shortage and supply chain crisis, and further stifling economic recovery. These hearing requests come on the heels of Senator Marshall hosting numerous roundtable discussions in Kansas City, Topeka, and Wichita with union workers who are literally faced with the decision of job or jab. Regarding his hearing requests, Senator Marshall said,

“This vaccine mandate is a slap in the face to so many frontline workers that ran to battle during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The issue at hand should be immune versus non-immune, but this White House and the CDC refuse to acknowledge natural immunity and only care about vaccinated versus not vaccinated,” said Senator Marshall. “Many essential workers across America are being faced with the choice of job or jab, and we must do all we can to protect them from this extreme government overreach. Therefore I am requesting the leadership of my committees hold hearings and allow the union workers I met with to testify – their stories are powerful and must be heard.”

Senator Marshall has been leading the fight in the U.S. Senate to halt President Biden’s vaccine mandate and to get the Administration to recognize the importance natural immunity.

• Earlier this week, Senator Marshall helped introduce the Keeping Our COVID-19 Heroes Employed Act to save essential workers from being fired due to President Biden’s sweeping vaccine mandate. The legislation will ensure our economy remains open by protecting our essential workforce from being fired.

• In September, Senator Marshall spoke on the Senate floor about an amendment he offered to the government spending package – one of just three amendments accepted – to prohibit funding for implementing or enforcing the Biden Administration’s COVID vaccine mandate on private companies. • In opposition to Biden’s vaccine mandate on businesses, Senator Marshall joined his colleagues in demanding a Congressional Review of President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate on private employees before it goes into effect and oppose this unlawful, unnecessary federal command.

• Senator Marshall joined his colleagues to introduce the Prevent Unconstitutional Vaccine Mandates for Interstate Commerce Act. As the Biden Administration is working to enforce vaccine mandates for businesses merely seeking to engage in interstate commerce, the legislation would protect the privacy of Americans’ personal health information and prohibit the Department of Transportation and other federal agencies from requiring proof of vaccination or the use of a vaccine passport for such activities.
