Sens. Marshall, Moran Announce Almost $6 Million in Funding for Manhattan Regional Airport

(Washington, D.C. September 23, 2021) – U.S. Senators Roger Marshall, M.D. and Jerry Moran today announced $5,925,150 in funding from the Department of Defense awarded to the City of Manhattan to reconstruct a runway at Manhattan Regional Airport. The project will support military use of the local civilian aviation facility.

“This meaningful investment through the Defense Community Infrastructure Program will help the Manhattan airport quickly and safely rehabilitate their primary runway,” said Senator Marshall. “The current runway has met the end of its usable lifespan and is a necessary asset not only to connect Manhattan and the surrounding communities with affordable air service, but also in supporting the mission readiness, deployment, and operations of nearby Fort Riley. I applaud the Department of Defense in their support of this important and timely project.”

“Local airports bring economic opportunities and critical resources to communities across Kansas including connecting our constituents and military personnel,” said Senator Moran. “I created the Defense Community Infrastructure Program to allow the Department of Defense to support servicemembers and their families by investing in its military communities. This continued investment in Manhattan Regional’s runway supports the community of Fort Riley’s travel capabilities and assists missions and operations.”

The Defense Community Infrastructure Program under the U.S. Department of Defense is authorized under 10 U.S. Code § 2391 and received appropriations in Fiscal Year 2021. The Defense Manufacturing Community Support Program makes long-term investments in critical skills, facilities, workforce development, research and development, and small business support in order to strengthen the national security innovation base.
