Sens. Marshall, Moran Announce Almost $5 Million in USDA HBIIP Funding Benefitting Kansas City Area

(Washington, D.C., August 20, 2021) – U.S. Senators Roger Marshall, M.D. and Jerry Moran announced a $4,884,077 USDA Rural Development Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program (HBIIP) grant awarded to Magellan Pipeline Company. This funding will lead to the installation of a 25,000-barrel storage tank, piping, pumps, gauging, manways, tank insertion heater and insulation, and small biodiesel mechanical building at a location in Kansas City. Altogether, this project is expected to increase the amount of biodiesel sold by 223,661,458 gallons per year.

“Continued expansion of necessary infrastructure for the biofuels industry increases marketing options for farmers and provides consumers with an affordable, clean energy option at the pump – a clear win-win for all Kansans,” said Senator Marshall. “I applaud USDA’s investment in renewable fuel systems, and look forward to the expansion of biofuel sales benefitting not only our great state, but America as a whole.”

“Diversifying the energy market, particularly our fuel supply, is beneficial for our country,” said Senator Moran. “As a member of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee with jurisdiction over USDA, I will continue to advocate for programs that promote the expansion of biofuels produced by our farmers to give Kansans greater access to higher quality fuels at the pump.”

Background:

USDA’s Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program (HBIIP) investments will be used to build infrastructure to help expand the availability of higher-blend renewable fuels. The HBIIP program helps give consumers more environmentally-friendly fuel choices when they fill-up at the pump.
