Sens. Marshall, Moran and Rep. LaTurner Announce $480,000 in USDA Funding for City of Erie

(Washington, D.C., July 28, 2021) – U.S. Senators Roger Marshall, M.D. and Jerry Moran and U.S. Representative Jake LaTurner (KS-02) announced a $480,000 USDA Rural Development loan awarded to the city of Erie to help purchase and operate Stubs Market. 

“This loan through USDA’s Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant Program will allow the city of Erie to continue operating its local grocery store, Stub’s Market,” said Senator Marshall. “Through this program, USDA will provide a zero-interest loan to Heartland Rural Electric Co-Op, which will allow it to extend funding to the City of Erie for continued operation of Stub’s Market. It’s an innovative financing method like the REDLG program that truly helps small communities, like Erie, create jobs and sustain the rural way of life.”

“The local grocery store is a vital component of any rural community, giving residents access to healthy and convenient food options,” said Senator Moran. “This federal USDA loan will provide capital for the City of Erie, giving them the resources and flexibility to continue operating Stub’s Market. As a member of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee with jurisdiction over USDA, I will continue to advocate for programs that improve the quality of life in our rural communities.”
